New York City | A fun adventure with friends

After many requests from friends and family, here are just a few pictures from our recent visit to New York City. Scott and I tend to be private when it comes to social media but I'm bending our rules a little. So many of friends, clients and family helped us with restaurant suggestions and places to go that I had to share our trip. We traveled to New York with our good friends Dee and Tom. They are wonderful friends of ours for many years and know us the best. We just hope that we didn't drive them crazy on this trip because we have more trips to plan.

Just a little side note about Scott and his photo gear. When we travel it's always a long contemplation for Scott on what photography gear is he going to take. Of course, it depends on where we are going, what will we be doing and how many cameras and lenses will he be taking. Well, to my surprise Scott only took a pocket camera that he purchase for his trip to mission Honduras last year and his phone. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Scott explained that this trip he was just going to make do with his small camera so he wouldn't have so much gear to haul all around New York City. Of course, there were many times he was kicking himself for not bringing a particular camera with a particular lens but in the end he was pleased with his decision.

Texas!

I wanted to share a few photos from our recent trip to the Great State of Texas.  The main reason to travel to Texas this time was to attend the wedding of our niece. What a wonderful trip it was!

The main event was in Dallas for the wedding of our niece Vanessa Gerard to Chris Thompson.

Our visit to Texas opened up the opportunity to visit friends that live in Allen Texas (former Kentuckians). That's me along with Laura Goepper Allnut. She will look familiar because she and her husband John wedding pictures on our Studio Walz website.

Scott was busy taking pictures of Evan and Miranda Dolive's family in Orange, Texas (temporarily Kentuckians for a few short years). This is Violet and she can be seen as a baby on the Studio Walz website.

This is Reid, Violet's little brother. He is quite a precious little boy. Always a smile on his face. Strangely enough we did not get any pictures of the whole family. The kids had our complete attention.

Our last days were in Houston where we stayed with Scott's high school friend Mike Carr and his family. Pictured here is his wife Sue. What a great host they were to us. We threaten to move in because staying with them was like staying at the best B&B ever!

Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event 2012

Finally, I had the opportuntiy to look at the pictures I took at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event in April. Since Scott bought me my first "big girl" camera last summer, I've worked at getting more familiar with my camera and having a little fun too. I'm still learning so don't be too harsh since my talent is quite limited. We haven't missed going to this event in years. It's quite symbolic to us because it's one of the first things we did together when we started dating. Yes, we still celebrate our first date, I know it's sappy but give us sappy people a break.

Scott & Valorie's Vacation 2011

Finally, a few pictures from our Europe/Eastern Mediterranean Cruise vacation that we took in August. I know, so many of you have been asking about our 20th wedding anniversary trip and finally here are a few pictures. I only had a few thousand to sort through (not like that's a lot or anything) to pick out some of my fav's. I hope you like them too. I've posted these pictures completely in a random order. I feel lucky just to get them up for all to see. You'll recognize most of the places.

Yes, that's me with my first "big girl" camera. Scott insisted on buying me my first SLR camera. Not a professional camera by all means but pretty nice one for a beginner. It's a Nikon D7000.

As you can imagine if there is a horse in the vicinity I would find it. I gave him some Kentucky horse treats. We never leave home without a few peppermints. The horse gladly took the peppermints from my hand but wasn't so sure about it after he ate it.

Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event

The last weekend in April is the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event that is attend by thousands from around the world. Scott and I make our annual trek to the Kentucky Horse Park located right here in Lexington for one of the finest equestrian events. My favorite event is the Cross-Country event.

This rider seemed relieved that he made the jump.

This was a terrible mishap that happened in front of us. The rider's mount caught it's hoof on the jump and caused a fall. Both horse and rider were fine but this did disqualify them from the rest of the event.

Friends | Keeneland Spring Meet

Spring means horse racing here in Kentucky and there's not much better than being at Keenelands' Spring Meet. We go every spring with our bff's. This is a time when we put our horse racing knowledge to the test and no matter if we are winning or losing our wagers we are having a blast.

Here we are with our friends Dee and Tom.

Now our thoughts are already on the first Saturday in May. Kentuckians across the state will be celebrating the Kentucky Derby. Whether you are at the Derby or attending a Derby party all eyes are on the most exciting two minutes in horse racing. Of course, I love seeing all the ladies in their spring dresses and you can't forget those beautiful hats. It is all apart of our horse racing culture. See you at the races, Valorie
